Lambda Alpha National Anthropology Honor Society

Established in 1968, the purpose of Lambda Alpha National Anthropology Honor Society is to both acknowledge and reward academic excellence. Beyond formal credentialing, membership in the Society includes opportunities to compete for nationally-recognized awards, including scholarships and student research grants. Each Spring, the National Office of Lambda Alpha hosts a student paper competition, with awards in both undergraduate and graduate student categories. In addition, the Lambda Alpha Journal reserves space for student publications to encourage budding academics to share their work.

Notably, Eta Chapter of Texas maintains a higher standard of scholarship than the national average. Application requirements for undergraduate and graduate students are as follows: 1) a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or better, 2) completion of at least 12 semester credit hours of Anthropology (ANTH) courses at the time of invitation, and 3) an average grade in ANTH courses of no less than a 3.5. In sum, receiving an invitation to join the Lambda Alpha collegiate honors society is a testament to your academic achievement. To learn more about the organization, visit https://laanthro.org/.

Membership is by invitation only. There is a one-time, lifetime membership fee of $25.00. Once your membership is processed, you will receive a lapel pin to adorn your graduation cap and gown, a personalized certificate acknowledging your membership, and a subscription to the online Lambda Alpha Journal. Lambda Alpha graduation stoles are also available for purchase through the National Office.
