Anthropology Major and Minor

Students must meet the general requirements for the B.A. degree in the university core (47 hours):

  • English (6 hours)
  • Political Science (6 hours)

1 Anth 2045, 2100, 2150, 2350, or 4050 are in this category.
2 Anth 2700 and Arch 2800 are in this category.
3 Anth 1010 and 2250 are in this category.

Majors must complete 36 hours in anthropology to include:

18 hours required:

  • Anth 1010 - General Anthropology
  • Anth 2250 - Intro. to Sociocultural
  • Anth 2500 - Intro. to Archaeology
  • Anth 2700 - Intro. to Physical Anthropology
  • Anth 3100 - Peoples and Cultures
  • Anth 4250 - Development of Anthropological Thought

18 hours of electives:

15 hours of which must be taken from the upper division level (3000 / 4000), minimum of 6 hours from 4000 level courses. A maximum of 3 hours of ANTH 4920 may be applied toward satisfying the 36 hour requirement.

In addition to university core requirements, students must complete the following courses:

Statistics (3 hours - MATH 1680, SOCI 4880, or PSYC 3610)
Philosophy (3 hours - PHIL 2310 or 2330)
Geography/History (3 hours - GEOG 1200, or HIST 1060, 4290, or 4370).
No minor is required.

Anthropology Minor



A minor requires completion of 18 hours in anthropology to include ANTH 1010, one introductory (2000) level course, and 6 hours from the upper-division level (3000 / 4000).

NOTE: Advanced standing or consent of the department is a prerequisite for enrollment in 3000 and 4000 level courses.
