UNT Anthropology

The anthropology department welcomes Barbara Rose Johnson for a guest lecture on Friday, Nov 13 at 2pm in the ENV Bldg room 115.  Dr. Johnson is an environmental anthropologist who studies the relationships between environmental crisis and human rights.  Her current work explores the community dynamics of water resource management; and, the human environmental impacts of the United States Nuclear Weapons Testing Program as conducted in the Marshall Islands.

Anthropology senior Jannell Robles was recently invited to speak at the PACS Circle of Impact dinner about her experiences as an anthropology and PACS student.  Great job Jannell!

Please join the UNT Anthropology Department and the College of Public Affairs and Community Service (PACS) in our annual Day of the Dead Celebration.  Dr. Alicia Re Cruz, professor of Anthropology, will explain the way this day is celebrated in the state of Yucatán, México.  Participants can bring non-returnable photos and mementos of deceased loved ones to be blessed and placed on the altar.  November 2, Monday, at noon in Chilton Hall, 209.

Dr. Mariela Nuñez-Janes received recognition this week as the 2009-2010 Diversity Champion for excellence in education for diversity issues.  Felicidades!

I’m happy to announce that Dr. Mariela Nuñez-Janes became the 2009 recipient of the UNT McNair Outstanding Service Award for her mentorship and support of McNair scholars.  We are very proud of her service!
